How Long Is a Day? Latitude 60 Degrees North

Click here to view the sky from a latitude of 60 degrees north. The North Star is still higher.

Again locate Vega and Eltanin and press the P button in the Time and Date display to start time running forward. From this latitude, you can see that both Vega and Eltanin stay above the horizon at all times.

It is a rule that as you move farther from the equator, the number of stars that are circumpolar increases. At the same time, a proportionately greater area of the southern sky remains invisible below the southern horizon, and stars you might have once seen near the southern horizon no longer rise into view.
