A type 1 supernova leaves nothing behind of the original star, but what is left after a type 2 supernova? The answer is quite interesting.
When a type 2 supernova goes off, a shockwave from the core of the star blows away the outer layers in a massive explosion, but the core itself is not necessarily destroyed. Depending on the mass of the remaining star, you may be left with what is known as a neutron star or, more mysterious still, a black hole.
