The Planets: Venus A View from the Surface

Certainly, something awful happened—or periodically happens—on Venus that literally turns the planet inside out. The average age of the surface everywhere on Venus is only 300 to 500 million years.

Venus is home to the largest number of volcanoes of any planet. While none are active now, some show the evidence of massive flows of highly liquid lava that recently coursed down their slopes. And Venus wears the scars of more than a few large asteroid impacts.
