Moon Missions: Apollo 15 The Earth from 46,000 km

About six hours after launch, the crew had this view of the Earth. From a distance of 46,000 km (28,750 miles), they could see North and South America and Africa (entering sunset on the right). Below the Earth they could see Mars, which in a few weeks would reach a very favorable opposition and be only 35 million miles (56 million km) from Earth.
