Moon Missions: Apollo 15 Into Lunar Orbit

Apollo 15 entered lunar orbit on July 29, 1971. The next day, the Service Module engine was used to lower the orbit to a low point of 50,000 feet. Astronauts Scott and Irwin entered the Lunar Module and undocked from the Command Service Module.

While Scott and Irwin worked on the moon, astronaut Worden would use cameras and other scientific equipment housed in the Service Module to photograph the lunar surface.
